Victory Lane

Victory Lane

Pittsburgh, PA powerpop rock quartet Victory Lane has one goal in mind; writing and performing songs at an extremely passionate level.

Victory Lane’s story begins when Jason Romanus (guitar/vocals) and Jimi Romanus (bass) were joined by long time friends Pat Dee (drums) and Ben Armstrong (guitar/vocals) in the Fall of 2004.

Victory Lane spent the latter half of 2005 and first few months in 2006 writing close to 30 new songs. In March, the band headed 15 hours westward to Eudora, Kansas to record its latest effort at the infamous Black Lodge Studios (Motion City Soundtrack, The Get Up Kids, Houston Calls). The outcome is a five song EP full of hook driven choruses, well-developed emotional lyrics, and songs fit for radio airplay. The newest batch of songs shows how far the band has grown in the past year since the release of its April 2005 full-length album, LISTEN AND BELIEVE.

Drive Thru Records President Richard Reines on Victory Lane, “They are prolific songwriters and are constantly improving their craft. They are really good guys, and I hope they get the break they deserve. I will always help them out whenever I can.”

Victory Lane has toured both the east coast and the midwest multiple times. The band has shared the stage with the likes of national acts Head Automatica, Gym Class Heroes, Halifax, The Violent Femmes, Spitalfield, HomeGrown, My American Heart, Mest, Punchline, Bayside, Socratic, Allister, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, and David Melillo to name some, as well as a spot on the 2005 and 2006 Vans Warped Tour.

I think the interview with Jimi was great, however you guys screwed up the song names. Regardless, I know the band personally and they are great guys. They are hard working and deserve serious recognition. They definitely have a long future ahead of them in the music industry, and I hope you’ll continue to give their songs airtime!

    OOPS.

Dammit…and I tried so hard to make sure everything was right on this. That’s what happens when you edit a show at 1 am.

    Thanks for listening!

Victory Lane is an awful band. they sound exactly like every other pissy, whiny, pretentious emo band. It’s a shame this is how Pittsburgh’s Indie scene is being represented.
    please check out these bands:
Great Ants, Seeing Eyeballs, Zelazowa, The Sexes, Mourning Electra, Chux Beta, etc…these bands are all amazing and a true representation of what’s new and original and real in Pennsylvania’s music scene…we’d love to hear interviews with these bands. Making up false accomplishments and embellishing your popularity is ridiculous…

    Jason,

I appreciate the comment. I’ll email these bands and see if they’re interested in becoming a part of the show.

By the way, interviews happen because of people voting for their favorite bands on the site. Victory Lane has had the largest vote ever on IndieUprising. So, whether or not you think they’re a pretentious emo band . . . over 100 people wanted them to be on the show. That’s hard for me to ignore.

    All the best!

oh hey man, I wasn’t being critical of the site at all, I have just seen a lot of fluff from these dudes being from the area. Your site is great, I have found some kick ass new bands on here, I was posting that more for readers, I like spreading good music around…hopefully some of those bands I mentioned will be game. good to hear from you man!!!

if the president of drive thru records thinks they are as good as the “quote” from him says, why doesn’t he sign them? lol

am I wrong or does the description of the music, “hook driven choruses, well-developed emotional lyrics, and songs fit for radio airplay” describe the antithesis of what true “Indie” music is? Just seems like these guys would do better on a mainstream rock site, because there’s nothing truly original or refreshing and that is waht I equate Independant music with…just a girl’s humble opinion. very cool site!! hope to hear Chux Beta sometime soon :)

you only like them because they are your boys. There is nothing original about them or the music. It’s ok to like them, but understand that people who don’t know them personally, like everyone posting for instance, is going to hate them. They are a shitty band. Period.

    fuck you right back.

wow. I found this site on one of my favorite bands sites, very cool. I had to comment on this band. My friend in one of the above mentioned bands always rants on stuff like this, so I’ll do it for him. When you write a glowing bio of your own band, you should really be ready to be critisized. I mean “Well Developed Emotional lyrics” ? says who? you know? also stating that you have songs that are ready for radio airplay is not exactly an accomplishment. have you heard the shit on the radio? I actually think Indie Uprising should use better discretion. they have some really great bands on here and VL is very cookie cutter, run of the mill in my eyes. I mean to have an artist like Jeremy Enigk who exemplifies true heart and soul in indie music on in the same breath with a band like VL is odd. although, giving unsigned bands is always admirable. I’m just predisposed to hate emo bands like VL. but I LOVE the site keep it up!!!

Wow, this has turned into a crazy string of posts.

First of all, I don’t claim to be “it” when it comes to indie music. I play a lot of bands based on suggestions from listeners, with a few bands I truly love here and there (jeremy enigk being one of them).

Music is very personal to a lot of people, so I give a lot of bands a shot on the show. It’s really up to the listeners to let me know what they want to hear. If I played 100% of only music I love personally, this wouldn’t be a very boring show. My personal tastes are very limited because I can be very picky and am stuck in my little corner of the universe.

So, I’m glad all of you like the show and I truly appreciate all your comments: the good, the bad, and the ugly! Since this is YOUR show, I gladly accept your input!

    Thanks for supporting Independent music!

Just so everyone knows, I got a myspace bulletin where Victory Lane is giving away a free Rockstar Energy drink to everyone who comes to the show. and they posted something with one of their cell #’s and called it “Victory Lane Ticket Hotline” DOES ANYONE ELSE KNOW WHY I HATE THIS BAND!?!?!?!? a no name local band doesn’t need a “ticket hotline” like really dude, who is calling them for tickets? like it’s such a hot item? get the fuck out of here, you pretentious fucks! I’m waging war against this lousy little kid band.

Yeah, I saw that. I have to say that was pretty ridiculous. Hey, if these guys need to make themselves believe they are famous or something, let them. This is the same thing we see from almost every Pittsburgh band. In their eyes, they are rockstars, in everyone else’s they are jokes.

Hey Sean, we should have some new music for you soon. we’d love to be on the show!

    wow, basically, you’re all douches
how are you people gonna talk shit on a band, when you probably dont do anything with your worthless lives. fuck you! VL is an amazing band, i liked them before i know them personally and i like them now. you are all shit heads, even if you dont like them, show some fucking respect! these guys are getting up on stage to do something they love doing. they are going after a dream, which is more than any of you can say.

    i love VL
i support all kinds of music
i do not condone what you people are doing. yes it is freedom of speech, but is it needed to be so fucking rude to some guys trying to do something they love? i think not.

    Great site sean
    i love it

wow!! Robbie, talk about a non sensical post. So do we get to exercise freedom of speech or not? You make the call. It’s no suprise that, once again, the only people who like this band ARE THEIR FRIENDS!!!! So before you go judging people because they don’t like “pop punk emo” shit, go graduate high school. How unbelievable is it that you would attack a group of people for not having the same opinions as you. shit, you must be a republican!

Hi this is Jimi who is in Victory Lane. I just randomly came across these posting replies here today and was not aware of the conversations that have taken place.
We did this interview with Sean from Indie Uprising 2 years ago I believe.

We write music that we enjoy and that we feel others will enjoy. I am sorry if we have done something to offend anyone who does not like our music.
That was our old biography and all the information in it was 100% correct. Richard Reines of Drive Thru Records has been a big supporter and friend of our band and has always been honest with us. He has always looked out for the best of our band. That does not mean he would ever sign Victory Lane.

We released a new song called Like Jenny recently and are planning on releasing the record that it is off of soon titled Industry of Cool.
Thanks for everyone’s support, whether we know you personally or not. If you have something that you are passionate about and people support you, then you definitely understand how much it means.

    VL Jimi
