Ladyslipper: The Time, Not The Weather
The Indie Review
By Sean Duregger
August 10, 2007
Band: Ladyslipper
Album: The Time, Not the Weather
Label: Say-Rah Records
Rating:

Minneapolis, Minnesota band Ladyslipper reminds me of a lot of bands I was into in the mid to late 90s. Bands like Fugazi and Jets to Brazil come to mind. Releasing their new full-length, The Time, Not the Weather, on Say Rah Records, Ladyslipper’s songs are fueled by lyrics and themes ranging from personal commentary on society and life in general to some political commentary sprinkled in for good measure.
In listening to the album, I couldn’t help but wish that they had a budget to their recording. From the energy coming out of my speakers, I’m convinced Ladyslipper is a fun live band. However, the recording comes across as muddy and unbalanced. Each song sounds like it was recorded in a different room and the final product sounds unmastered and unmixed. Almost like they hit record and that was the end of it.
Because of this poor production, it’s hard for me to recommend The Time, Not the Weather to anyone at all. Hopefully, Ladyslipper has a budget next time and can get a decent recording. There is passion and ideas behind the music, it’s a shame that nothing came through in the recording.
