Secret & Whisper - Great White Whale

Secret & Whisper is a band that has been getting some hype for some time now. So, of course I decided I’d better check them out. Great White Whale was released on Tooth and Nail Records this week and I have to tell you: save your money, buy Saosin instead.

Secret & Whisper sound like Saosin’s jealous younger brother. There is absolutely no originality to this album. In fact, I began to think I was listening to some unreleased Saosin demos. The vocals, guitars, drums & song structure have no originality to them what-so-ever.

Great White Whale is an uninspired copy-cat. Buy any Saosin or Circa Survive album and forget this trash ever existed.

So brutal yet so true. Charles stuff with thebleedingalarm was much better.

i couldn’t disagree more. there’s a reason for the hype behind this band. to each his own i guess, but this album definitely consists of some solid material.

I would say, that it’s alot better than the cove era saosin stuff for the simple fact that the guy for Secret and Whisper can actually sing live, I saw them with lower definition yesterday days ago and it was awesome. but this doesn’t compare to anything with anthony green.

don’t get me wrong, I love cove’s singing on the record, and the Saosin LP is probably the album I’ve listened to most in my life other than Underoath’s they’re only chasing safety.

I haven’t seen them live, so I have no ground to stand on there. But, just comparing the albums (and yes…the anthony green saosin is FAR superior) there are SO many similarities it’s hard to ignore.

I have strangely found myself revisiting this album a few times, but still can’t get my ears around how similar they sound. Maybe their next album will be a bit more original. I do agree these guys have some significant talent and potential. Just not a fan of the debut.

OK….so I just heard the new Saosin Live album. Sheesh, Vile…Cove can’t hold a tune live. I don’t know why they released that filler of a live album.
