Movie of the Week

This week's movie quote is from:

Friends of IndieUprising

Lujo Records has been busy sending me updates! I’m excited for the new Out_Circuit album! Once I receive my copy, I’ll be featuring them on the show in January.

NEW OUT_CIRCUIT RECORD AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ODER NOW!

You can own a copy of The Out_Circuit’s new record, Pierce The Empire With A Sound MONTHS ahead of time. It doesn’t hit streets until February, but it’s available now in the store section of the Lujo website! You can buy it by itself for $10, or as part of an Out_Circuit/Nate Burke 9 cd package deal for $30 which includes both OC records, Night Is Invisible, Brahm, and 5 comps that feature OC songs! Read on for more info on the new record and don’t miss the collaborations!

“The Out_Circuit makes music in reference to a state of mind. On their debut record, Burn Your Scripts, Boys, the state of mind was mellow, moody and atmospheric. For the bands’ sophomore effort, Pierce the Empire With A Sound, mastermind Nathan Burke holds to the bracing-yet-beautiful instrumental melodies that Burn Your Scripts was noted for, but builds on those, positioning them opposite a heavier sound actualized by occasionally screamy vocals and a driving rhythm section. Collaborations with Dustin Kensrue of Thrice, Sean Ingram of Coalesce, and Rachel Burke of Beauty Pill are only appropriate here. Pierce The Empire With A Sound offers you that rare space where darkness and beauty collide.” Check out tracks from the new record HERE and get your copy today!!

LOOK MEXICO on Tour = No Duh
* shows with One Small Step For Landmines / Chase Pagan
——————————————————-

Instead of putting all this work into countless (well, seven) press releases informing you of yet another Look Mexico tour, from now on you should simply assume that more than likely, the band will be rocking some sweaty basement / dive bar in your town within the next week or two. Cause it will probably happen.

For those who absolutely refuse to camp out at their local venue in blind anticipation of Look Mexico showing up, here’s a handy schedule outlining the band’s upcoming tour with Chase Pagan. The boys are also booking a short tour with gal pals and fellow Tallahasseeans One Small Step For Landmines at the end of December.

Speaking of One Small Step For Landmines, the three piece will be touring heavily in 2008, including a Jan / Feb tour with Driver Side Impact and Ivoryline. The band’s self-titled debut was released in September by Civil Defense League. Check out some free mp3s here: Take Me Seriously / I Don’t Think

Look Mexico’s debut full-length, This Is Animal Music, was released earlier this summer on Lujo Records and recently received the vinyl treatment from Good Friends Records and another label which I don’t particularly care to mention right now. The band will have copies of this ridiculously awesome-looking 12″ at shows. Check out some free mp3s here: You Come Into My House / Done and Done.

[press release from Lujo Records]

Somewhere between Interpol’s Turn On the Bright Lights and Minus The Bear’s Menos El Oso, is where you will find Mouse Fire’s Wooden Teeth. This is a debut album from the band, but make no mistake, musicianship is markedly mature. Wooden Teeth is a piece de resistance, boasting a calliber of artistry found few other places in independent music today. The band has fused the best of their somber-chic forefathers (Modest Mouse, Cursive) with modern rock ideas. The result is a striking soundscape ripe with danceable rythyms that will leave you in a delightful state of shock. Put on your dancing shoes, kids. You can’t possibly stand still to music like this.

Wooden Teeth“, is now available for your pre-purchase exclusively through Lujorecords.com! Available everywhere November 6th!

You are just one click away from one of the most dynamic and rollicking records of 2007!!

Listen LOUD!!
This Is How I Throw My Slider
To Celebrate A Suicide

Here is what people are saying:
Mouse Fire takes the modern touches of indie-pop and applies them to traditional pop song structure. You can hear influences of middle-of-the-road ’70s pop with dancey rhythms…the Beatles mixed with contemporary bands as disparate as No Knife and the Dismemberment Plan.”
-TAMPA BAY TIMES

“The new album features such songs as the haunting “To Celebrate a Suicide,” which is rich with quick, drum beats and fast-paced guitar strumming backed by Shuch’s breathy vocals and lyrics…new-age Beatles that everyone can listen to and enjoy.”
-THE LAKELAND LEDGER

“…these musicians create moody dance-rock while waving their fret boards and kicking their feet to a synchronized science.”
-REAX

Be there!! Woot!

RIP RAY!

LOOK MEXICO’s van Ray, bit the dust. From the band’s MySpace blog:

“We get a show at the legendary CBGB, a dream come true, and Ray’s death rattle is louder than ever. Within forty miles of New York, we are stopping every fifteen minutes to pour water in his radiator, twisting off the cap and running as it spews boiling water behind us. Finally with an embarrassed cough, Ray stops running completely. We had three hours until the show, and so we call AAA to tow us all the way to the Manhattan club. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but we had been huffing radiator fumes for two hours.”

Look Mexico

The Indie Review
By Sean Duregger
September 20, 2007

Artist: Look Mexico
Album: This is Animal Music
Label: Lujo Records
Rating: ★★★★★

Look Mexico is a breath of fresh air in a sea of mediocrity in today’s music scene. Their full length This is Animal Music invokes elements of “vintage emo” and reminds me of all the bands I fell in love with and still love today (Sunny Day Real Estate, The Appleseed Cast, Mineral.) Too many bands today are trying to fit into the mold of what I call “trendy emo goth” and Look Mexico have pushed aside all the trendy bull-shit and have released a masterpiece that will stand the test of time and become one of the great albums of 2007.
