We Shot the Moon release date announced

‘Fear and Love’, available in stores 4/29/08
ARTIST SITE - MYSPACE - PUREVOLUME
San Diego pop darlings We Shot The Moon are welcomed into The Militia Group family of artists. With a full length, Fear And Love, due out 4.29.08, critical success in Japan, and non-stop tour dates in 2008 - the band is, in fact, shooting for the moon.
We Shot The Moon is the brainchild of one man: Jonathan Jones. Jones, the former singer of Waking Ashland, formed We Shot The Moon in July of 2007 when Waking Ashland called it quits. Jonathan wanted to build upon the success of Waking Ashland, but was ready to take his music in a new direction; so he enlisted the help of his friends Dan Koch and Joe Greenetz (of Sherwood). They holed up in the studio in August of 2007 and the result was the marvelous and dreamy Polar Bear and Cougar EP. Dan Koch says of the writing process, “I was a fan of Waking Ashland, but wanted to help bring the very best out of Jonathan…and make every single song really count. ”
Since that time, We Shot The Moon have released the Polar Bear and Cougar EP on iTunes, completed 2 full U.S. tours, and returned to the studio to record the Fear And Love LP.
Look for We Shot The Moon on the road for all of 2008, and their debut LP, Fear And Love, April 29th, 2008 on The Militia Group.
We Shot The Moon’s Debut EP has sold 5000 units in 6 weeks!
‘Sway Your Head’ will be featured on the Music Saves Lives (Red Cross) sampler distributed to over 500,000 people at Warped Tour and blood drives around the U.S.!

2008 is starting to become a year to be remembered. There have been a handful of great releases already and The Militia Group have released their first MUST HAVE of 2008 with The New Frontiers‘ debut, Mending. This is uplifting Alt Country inspired album that isn’t afraid to borrow the best parts of other Rock sub-genres. This blend makes for an original yet familiar sound, with straight forward Country tinged Rock songs (Black Lung), to beautiful, laid back melodies (The Day You Fell Apart, Mirrors), even a genuinely honest acoustic number (Spirit and Skin).
A lot is to be said about the vocals as well. Nathan Pettijohn’s soothing vocals are near perfect, and some of the best I’ve heard this year. Complimenting Nathan’s incredible vocals are amazing harmonies sung by the other members of the band. This especially done well on the song Mirrors. It sounds like everyone in the band contributed to these harmonies and they are the most beautiful harmonies I’ve heard in a song in the past few years. In fact, the album’s high point comes a little too early with Mirrors, easily the best song on the album. That’s a minor gripe. Because the album is so good, you almost want to pick it apart to see if there are any flaws at all. You’re going to have to get a microscope out, because The New Frontiers have a near-perfect album with Mending.
With memorable songs and honest lyrics, The New Frontiers have given us an inspirational and unforgettable album with Mending. Get ready to wear out your CD player or iPod, you won’t want to listen to anything else for a while.

I had never heard of the term Powerpop until Fall Out Boy came on the scene. Fusing the attitude of Punk Rock, Pop Punk, Rock, Pop and (gasp!) good vocals was a fresh idea back in 2003. Unfortunately, this led to market saturation and tons of bands that took on the Powerpop label. Which leads us to Driving East and their new album, The Future of the Free World is Riding On This One out on The Militia Group.
It’s not that this is a BAD record. There’s solid production, the band can play & Barrett Mullins can sing. But, we’ve heard all this before and in most cases we’ve heard it done better. I’m not going to be all doom and gloom, this is a marketable record and I’m positive it will and has sold a ton of records. There are plenty of people who will eat this up. With that said, though, I don’t think there is much that stands out to make this a memorable record.
Driving East have released a slightly above average album with The Future of the Free World is Riding On This One and with The Militia Group’s back catalog of great bands, I was expecting more. In my opinion, Driving East’s The Future of the Free World is Riding On This One is predictable Powerpop that doesn’t contribute anything new to the table.

Denison Witmer Begins Recording a New Album
Author: Sean

Almost three years have passed since the critical acclaim of Denison Witmer’s 2005 release Are You A Dreamer? on Militia Group Records. You may be wondering: What has he been doing with all of his time? When is he going to record another album?
Militia Group Records has your answers:
In the last few years, Denison Witmer has toured both the US and Europe four times, sharing the stage with the likes of Anathallo, Billy Bragg, Iron and Wine, Joanna Newsom, Low, Page France, Rainer Maria, Rosie Thomas, Sondre Leche, Sufjan Stevens, and Militia Group label-mates Lovedrug and Copeland.
In early 2006, Denison joined his friends Rosie Thomas and Sufjan Stevens to record and co-produce Rosie’s latest LP These Friends of Mine (Sing-A-Long/Nettwerk).
October 2006 brought with it the 10th anniversary of Denison’s debut album, Safe Away. Militia Group Records re-released Safe Away as a double disc, repackaging it with new artwork and including the bonus EP Are You A Sleeper?.
On November 4, 2006, Denison celebrated his thirtieth birthday by launching a charity website, happybirthdaydenison.com. The website, which features over thirty free songs, raises money for the non-profit organizations Partners In Health and Musicians on Call.
In March 2007, Denison Witmer fulfilled a lifetime dream, buying his first home in Philadelphia, PA. After seven months and many trips to the local hardware store, Denison completely rehabbed his house and built his first dedicated home studio.
Since the beginning of this year, Denison has been making demos and writing new songs in preparation for his seventh album. He is scheduled record this spring in Seattle, WA with producer and friend Blake Wescott (Pedro the Lion, Damien Jurado, The Posies). The album will feature many familiar faces, including Rosie Thomas and James McAlister (Denison’s Are You A Dreamer?, Sufjan Stevens’ Illinoise). Recording will begin at London Bridge Studios and end at Studio Litho (owned by Stone Gossard of Pearl Jam).
Please visit Denison’s website, www.denisonwitmer.com, for recording updates.
